OnePlus 8 series phones — OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8T — will get the ColorOS update next year. This was announced by OnePlus COO, Liu Fengshuo via a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. The update, as per the post, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
It does not specify whether the global units or only the users in China will get the update. Most likely, the ColorOS update for OnePlus 8 series will arrive for Chinese units only.
OnePlus phones usually come with OxygenOS. But that changed with the OnePlus 9 series when the Chinese variants of the phone were announced with Oppo’s ColorOS. But, the global units still run on OxygenOS.
Meanwhile, the company has rolled out Android 11 operating system update for its OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T smartphones. The duo were launched in 2018 with Android 8.0 Oero operating system out of the box.
OnePlus started testing the first beta of OxygenOS 11 in July earlier this year. Subsequently, the smartphones received two beta updates.
The latest stable update will have a staged rollout and will initially be available to a limited number of users and will have a broader rollout in a few days.
